





“The Catholic Church in the Eastern part of Nigeria looked forward to the opening of the new St Paul Book Centre in Enugu, the largest Catholic Book Centre in West Africa. It is more than 15 years since the Pauline mission in Nigeria began, and their name and mission service is so popular in Nigeria that you may not find any Nigerian who is not familiar with their publications and audio-video products”.

Thus reported The Vatican News, about the blessing and inauguration of St Paul Book Centre at Enugu last November 3, 2003. It will go down in the annals of the Diocese of Enugu as a great day of celebration for the people. The people of West Africa witnessed the blessing and inauguration of St Paul Book Centre - the largest of its kind in that region, with a variety of books on different topics - in the presence of four Bishops and more than 100 priests concelebrating the solemn Eucharist as a thanksgiving to God for giving them such mighty means for evangelization. St Paul Book Centre, located in the Holy Ghost Cathedral campus looks so majestic from outside and looking inside every one will marvel at it. The Solemn Eucharistic Celebration at Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu was presided over by His Grace,
Most Rev Dr. Felix Alaba Job, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan and President of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria, and His Lordship, Most Rev Dr. Anthony Okonkwo Gbuji, Bishop of Enugu, preached the homily.

Among the concelebrants were Most Rev. Immanuel Bushu, Bishop of Buea, Cameroon, Most Rev George Nkuo, Bishop of Kumbo, Cameroon, and Secretary of the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, and Rev Fr Jose Pottayil, Vicar General from Rome and Fr Varghese Gnalian, Provincial Superior of the India-Nigeria Province.The New Book Centre was blessed by His Grace, Most Rev Dr Felix Alaba Job.

The presence of many priests, religious and well-wishers testified that the inauguration at Enugu was a gift from God and a moment of grace for the people of the region. The speakers at the function enthusiastically spoke about the relevance of the Pauline apostolate in the African continent and appreciated the services rendered by the members of the Society of St Paul and the whole Pauline family in Nigeria especially in the field of evangelization through the media.
